Port Property Announces 2021 Charitable Giving Initiative with Continued Focus on Ending Childhood Hunger

Building on our annual charitable giving initiative launched last year amid the pandemic, Port Property is excited to announce the continuation of our partnership with Full Plates Full Potential! Established in 2014, Full Plates is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing and finding solutions for childhood hunger across Maine. Beginning this month, Port Property has joined Full Plates as the newest member of their FEED KIDS program, a community initiative of Maine businesses that regularly donate a portion of their funds to support the organization’s mission.

As outlined by Full Plates, Maine has the “highest rate of food insecurity in New England.” Full Plates continues to work with schools and nonprofit organizations to increase participation in child nutrition programs, removing everyday barriers that children face in accessing nutritious meals.

The COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the issue of food insecurity among Maine youth – while 1 in 5 children were food-insecure, 40% of Maine’s children were still designated as “ineligible” for school meals. In 2022, Full Plates plans to work alongside partners to implement the groundbreaking state legislation passed in 2021 to ensure School Meals for All.

To kick off our FEED KIDS collaboration, Port Property has donated an initial $2,000 to help Full Plates provide nutritious meals for food-insecure children across the state. For every new lease signed, Port Property will make an additional donation. Progress can be tracked here on our campaign page.

Port Property believes that no child should grow up hungry. Addressing issues of food insecurity and childhood hunger are critical to the success and development of Maine’s children, families, and the collective wellbeing of our local communities. This partnership speaks to our dedication to the neighbors and community members who call Maine home, and we are proud to support Full Plates Full Potential in their efforts to end childhood hunger.
