In the Spotlight: Darrell Turcotte, Property Manager

At Port Property, people are at the heart of everything we do. From building welcoming communities to ensuring our residents feel at home, it’s our team members who bring that experience to life every day.

In this edition of our Spotlight series, we speak with Darrell Turcotte, a Property Manager based in Portland. He oversees several properties, including The Linden (132 Marginal Way), The Ambassador (37 Casco Street), and The Shepley (18 Casco Street).

Q: What does a typical day look like for you?

A major part of my work is helping to rent apartments, so you’ll usually find me running tours across the properties. But every day brings something different. I’m responding to maintenance requests, responding to resident questions, and managing things like parking. It’s very hands-on. And it’s non-stop—which I love!

Q: What do you enjoy most about the role?

I really enjoy interacting with people—whether it’s responding to resident requests or coordinating with vendors. A big part of the job is building rapport. You’re working with this wide range of people, from current residents to future residents, and the broader community, so it’s important to communicate honestly and build trust.

Q: Tell us about your previous experience—I know you’ve had a solid 20-year career in the housing industry here in Maine.

Most recently, I was in a senior director role in an affordable housing organization. I managed teams and oversaw operations. I enjoyed it, but I realized I really missed being in the day-to-day and being more hands-on. That’s what drew me back to property management.

Q: How has your experience been with the Port Property team so far?

One thing that stands out here is the level of trust. This company really empowers its employees to make good decisions. They know the talent they’re bringing in. That trust helps us resolve issues quickly and keep things from escalating. Which leads to a better experience for everyone involved.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

I’m a big runner—I’ve completed five or six marathons and try to participate in local races whenever I can. I really enjoy being outdoors—hiking, biking, anything that gets me outside. Maybe that’s why my role really suits me so much—I’m always on the move! If something needs to get done and I have the time, I’ll jump in—no matter what it is.

Stay tuned for the next installment of our In the Spotlight series, where we showcase the amazing individuals who make up the Port Property team.
