439 Congress Street, also known as The Metropolitan, housed the L.W. Cleveland Co. during the early 1920s, which was a leader in electrical contracting. There are 81 units in this six-story building: a combination of studios and one bedroom apartments, in addition to four commercial spaces on the first floor.
439 Congress Street includes a locked bike room on-site available to residents. The building’s apartments include hardwood floors and many have charming, historic features. Located in downtown Portland, 439 Congress Street is in a walkable area surrounded by chic restaurants, boutique shopping, and waterfront activities.
Rents at 439 Congress Street include heat, hot water, cooking gas, and water/sewer. Apartments on the 5th floor include electric stoves & HVAC units.

If any utility company needs access to a secured area of the building, please call Port Property’s Non-Emergency Maintenance Line at 207-699-2216 at least 24 hours in advance. Residents should leave their name, new address, and the connection date.
Note: Please do not schedule utilities to be turned on during the weekend or after hours if Port Property is required for access or assistance.
Coin-op laundry machines are available in the laundry room, which is located in the back stairwell between the first and second floors.
Note: To ensure minimal disruption, residents are asked to refrain from using the laundry facilities before 8 am and after 8 pm.
439 Congress Street includes an on-site bike room and mailroom.
Mailboxes are located on the second floor, or Floor 1 if coming from the elevator.
There is no off-street parking available at 439 Congress Street.

Trash receptacles are located in the rear of the building.
All trash must be contained in closed trash bags (City of Portland trash bags are not required) and placed inside of the barrels, with the lids closed. Please notify the office if the barrels are full.
If residents dispose of household trash and/or large items in or around the building or grounds, they will be charged for removal and disposal.

To set up a buzzer: Call Port Property at (207) 699-2218 and leave the resident’s address, telephone number, and reason for calling. Port Property will input this information into the system.
Once inputted, the resident’s telephone number will be linked to their apartment. When a guest requests entry, the resident’s phone will ring. After answering (if the resident would like to grant access), push 6 to buzz open the door.
